1. It’s a safe alternative to eating out
Due to the restrictions of COVID-19, our annual event Street Eats Fest has a new and exciting format. It will have an intimate dinner party feel – taking place in the homes of event hosts and supporters across the city.
Curated recipes and all the ingredients you need will be delivered right to your door. Then comes the fun part: follow the step-by-step instructions to prepare the delicious dishes for your guests – and then enjoy a one-of-a-kind dinner from the comfort and safety of your own home!
2. Learn from top Toronto Chefs
Street Eats is collaborating with 4 top Toronto Chefs, including: Bashir Munye from George Brown College, Joshna Maharaj from Take Back the Tray and Ryan Donovan and Carl Heinrich from Richmond Station! Together these Chefs bring a diversity of culinary skill and a collective passion to support good food and better food access in the city. They will be sharing their personal and tested recipes for you to re-create in your own home!
3. You won’t want to miss the food!
This year’s menu is inspired by food that celebrates connection to place, culture and personal stories. Each Chef has shared a recipe that is significant to them and combines original and flavorful ingredients. Menu items include Africanesque, featuring baked injera, okra and heirloom tomatoes, and Savory and Spicy Chicken, flavored with coconut and habanero…Yum!
So how does it work? A box with ingredients for a 3-course meal, recipes, and some fun surprises will be delivered to your home (or the home of someone you buy a ticket for) on November 16th, 17th, or 18th. Your specific delivery date will be confirmed closer to the event. Using the ingredients provided and following the recipes, you and your guests will prepare a delicious street food-inspired dinner to enjoy.
4. Connection, Community, and Insight
On event day – November 18 – attendees will have the opportunity to tune in to our 40-minute virtual event to learn about the food they are making and the critical programs they are supporting. Guests will hear from the Chefs on the recipes they have shared and what food issues matter most to them.
Our video experience will also give you an intimate look at Fred Victor’s food programs, where you will listen to frontline staff speak about the impact of their work.
5. Why supporting Street Eats is so important this year
100% of the funds raised from Street Eats will go to programs and services that aim to increase food security and food access in our city. Help us reach our goal of raising $250,000 to support Fred Victor’s food programs, including: daily meal programs, cooking skills programs, nutritional education, culinary employment training, and urban edible gardening.
Since the pandemic hit, the number of meals we’ve served to the community has doubled, and will continue to grow as programs close and people lose their jobs. We also have supporter tickets available for a more affordable price of $75. This ticket does not include any of the food/ingredients, but includes the recipe info, step-by-step instructions, and access to the live stream!
