A student placement will allow you to apply your skills from the classroom to real-life experiences, assisting you in starting your career as a new graduate. Our students are a valuable and important part of our organization as we work to improve the health, income, and housing stability of people experiencing poverty and/or homelessness. We provide students with the opportunity to learn, grow, and work to help people rebuild their lives.

Throughout the year, Fred Victor offers student placement opportunities in various areas and programs. Some of the programs students have been placed in the past include:

• Housing & Social Services
• Mental Health and Addictions
• Culinary
• Employment and Training Services
• Administrative/Back Office Support

The Eligibility Criteria:

• Canadian Citizenship or permanent residency, or a valid study permit (for international students)
• Currently enrolled as a full-time or part-time student at an accredited post-secondary institution

Overview of Student Placement Positions at Fred Victor:

Social Services, Mental Health and Addiction or Housing Student – Work alongside our housing workers, case managers, community workers, and many more. You will have the opportunity to shadow and assist with day-to-day program operations, which may include supporting weekly unit inspections, group inspections, answering calls, and harm reduction training.

Culinary Student – Work under the guidance of our culinary team as they prepare nutritious and balanced meals for our community.

Administration/Back Office Support Student – Be the person who works behind the scenes and supports our administration team. You can work with a variety of our departments, including finance, human resources, payroll, and programs/services.

Employment and Training Services Student – Work closely with program facilitators and employment counselors. Students will have the opportunity to engage and help develop relationships with clients by helping them navigate job search websites, make edits to resumes, and provide support with computer skills upgrading.

To better assist with your placement needs, kindly provide the following additional details in your cover letter, email or attachment:

1. Include the semester you are applying for (ex. Fall, Winter, or Summer)
2. The number of hours you require and placement length 
3.  Field Placement Information or School Placement Manual – Providing information about your school’s program, learning outcome, your placement supervisor’s responsibilities and expectations. This can be obtained from your school or your placement coordinator.
4. If applicable, your preferred Fred Victor location (Please note: each FV location is designated to a specific departments and specialized programs)

Application Deadlines

• Winter Placement Semester (Starting in January of the year) – Apply by December 1st.
• Summer Placement Semester (Starting in May or June of the year) – Apply by April 1st.
• Fall Placement Semester (Starting in September of the year) – Apply by August 1st. 

Please note that we receive many applications for student placement opportunities at Fred Victor. Unfortunately, we can’t accommodate all the application request for every semester.   We will keep your application on file and will reach out to you should there be an opportunity in one of our Fred Victor programs.
