Our Work

The need in our city is great. There are over 10,000 people experiencing homelessness in Toronto. 1 in 5 families are living in poverty. Over the past three years, the combination of economic challenges and soaring inflation has placed immense pressure on vulnerable individuals and families. Many working households now face difficulties in meeting rent, bills, and affording nutritious meals. Those without permanent housing are increasingly relying on shelters that are often full, while others find themselves living in encampments as a last resort.

Your support can help Fred Victor provide affordable, supported and transitional housing for hundreds of people and families moving out of homelessness; emergency shelters for people with nowhere else to turn, including three 24-hour emergency programs specifically for vulnerable women; 20,000 free healthy meals a month for people living with food insecurity; Drop-in centres that provide life’s essentials such as washrooms, clothing, mental health services, and caring professionals at the door; Steps to Success children and youth afterschool program featuring homework help, reading clubs and youth nights offered in our family housing locations; Employment and Training like the Women’s Bakery and Fred’s Kitchen programs.

Every year in June, you can sponsor Fred’s Walk. This event offers an opportunity for your employees to connect with each other, dispel myths, participate in team-building and fundraising activities, and celebrate with awards and refreshments at the end.Your sponsorship of this weekly summer community festival will help showcase the vibrant culture of the downtown east and its talented artisans, food vendors, and entertainers, while providing affordable food and opportunity for low-income people.Taste of Regent Park attracts people of all ages from the community and across the city and also has team volunteer opportunities for your employees.
Every October, you can sponsor Street Eats and help raise $250,000 to support Fred Victor’s food and employment programs. Fred Victor’s signature fundraising event is a market-under-the-stars, with local food entrepreneurs showcased alongside Toronto’s finest chefs, craft brewers, local winemakers, and live musicians. This is a great opportunity to invite your special guests and employees to sample gourmet street food from around the world while supporting local makers and local residents in need.

Team Volunteering

Your employees can take part in meaningful, engaging activities that provide direct tangible support for Fred Victor clients. Whether working together in our community gardens, making weekend lunches, or assembling warm winter care kits, your employees will gain a deeper understanding about poverty and homelessness in our city, and how we can make a difference.
