Paula’s story

Paula had been living on the streets for two years. One morning, she woke up and realized that she had been robbed. Her backpack—her medication, her ID card, and sleeping pack—was gone. The few things Paula counted on to get through each day were gone. The worst part was that it seemed as though no one cared. The world kept walking on by around her devastation. Paula started to really lose hope.

That’s when Fred Victor’s street outreach team met her. People cared, and there was help. Things shifted fast. Paula connected with one of our drop-in centres, where she could eat, rest, do laundry, and get healthcare supports. Her case worker helped her get a new ID card and a spot in supportive housing. For the first time in years, she can think beyond getting through another night on the streets and plan ahead for a brighter future.
