Eric’s story

Eric connected with Fred Victor’s WRAP Around Support Program as a newly arrived refugee to Canada. Back home, he had a Master of Theology and years of experience as a minister. Here, he was willing to take any kind of hard labour job in a factory as soon as he got his work permit.

The WRAP program facilitator saw his potential, though—Eric was empathetic and had great communication skills. After talking with Eric about his career goals and passions, they referred him to an internal peer position job in social services which fit his interests. Eric got support to complete his resume and cover letter and was hired for a short-term contract. The work experience was empowering. Eric felt that he had found his new calling in the field of social services. His WRAP program facilitator referred him to our internal social services training program. Now, Eric is completing his training for social services and is working with Fred Victor’s extreme weather street outreach team part-time. His journey from a client to a colleague took less than two months, and brought Eric back to the sense of purpose he had always felt in his work.
