Mental Health Crisis Support for Black, African and Caribbean Communities

Mental Health Crisis Support for Black, African and Caribbean Communities

This program provides crisis intervention, assessment, crisis management, and follow-up services for people within these communities who are experiencing mental health and/or substance use crises, particularly those who have had negative interactions with the police as a result of their mental health crisis.

As one of Toronto’s first crisis support programs specifically serving Black communities, this program is funded to support the innovative development of Toronto Community Crisis Services (TCCS). Our team of dedicated Mental Health Crisis Support Case Managers and a Family Mental Health Navigator work to foster resilience and healing by delivering culturally responsive services tailored to the unique needs of African, Black, and Caribbean individuals and families.

We serve Black-identifying adults aged 16 and over who are in crisis and require community-based stabilization support. Our program staff meet with the person or referral source to assess their situation, including their mental health status, current living situation, available supports, and connections to psychiatric and other social services. This comprehensive assessment ensures that each person receives the appropriate care and resources to help them through their crisis and towards long-term stability.

This program is available to self-identified African, Black, and Caribbean people aged 16 and over who are experiencing a high-risk mental health and/or substance use crisis, with services accessible through direct engagement with our program staff.
