Albert’s story

Albert fled his home country seeking a better life in Canada. He left everything behind except a backpack with his educational certificates and a few hundred dollars to completely start his life over. Soon after arriving in Canada, Albert heard news from home—his home had been broken into and destroyed. Albert had nothing to return to.

He was left to fend for himself with no support in a completely foreign country and unfamiliar culture. Thankfully, Albert connected with Fred Victor. At the time, he was staying in shelters. Albert and his case worker worked together on his goals, including housing stabilization. They found him an apartment of his own. With stable housing, Albert is now working on his mental health and employment goals for the future. He wants to work with refugees and newcomers, to help them through the system that challenged him. He wants to ensure that other people in his situation get help that works, too.

Last year, Fred Victor supported people to move out of shelters and into permanent housing.
