A Family Needs a Home
Once a thriving and gainfully employed father, Dave endured a world turned upside down when his spouse left, leaving him alone to care for their two children, one of whom has severe autism. Overwhelmed by the sole responsibility of providing stability and support for his family, Dave made the difficult decision to quit his job, plunging him into a world of uncertainty.
As Dave’s focus shifted to meeting his children’s needs, his mental health began to deteriorate. Struggling to make ends meet, he found himself unable to pay his rent and felt the weight of the world on his shoulders. It was during this challenging time that Dave reached out to Fred Victor, seeking guidance and support to navigate his options. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the dedicated case managers at Fred Victor swiftly sprung into action.

They worked closely with Dave to help him secure a more affordable housing unit. Through their tireless efforts, Fred Victor’s staff enabled Dave to access crucial funds, providing assistance with the first and last month’s rent and helping to pay off his rent arrears.
Empowered and supported, Dave embarked on a transformative employment training program designed to reintegrate him into the workforce. Now living in rent-geared-to-income housing, Dave and his children have found refuge in their new environment. Their new home is close to parks and playgrounds and, most importantly, is within walking distance of an Early Years Centre that specializes in working with special needs children and their families.
With Fred Victor’s support, the family began to rebuild their lives, actively participating in various activities tailored to their unique circumstances, and finding comfort in the safe and nurturing community they now call home.
With the help of Fred Victor this once vulnerable family remained housed and, most importantly, stayed together. Their journey is a testament to the transformative power of compassion and support.
