Fred’s Virtual Walk and Why You Need to Participate

Fred’s Walk is one of Fred Victor’s most significant fundraisers for the year; in 2019 we brought together over 100 participants! It’s also an opportunity to take a more in-depth look at the critical programs and services offered at some of our 20 sites across the City of Toronto. However, Fred’s Walk will look a little different this year. Amid the continued COVID-19 pandemic and with a continued effort to respect social distancing and the push to stay at home, Fred’s Walk is turning virtual this year!

How can you go on a virtual walk you ask?

This year, we are getting creative and producing videos that feature interviews and an exclusive look at 6 different Fred Victor sites across the city. Frontline workers at each site will answer questions like: “What makes emergency sites like the 24-hour respite necessary in a city like Toronto?”, “What is a mental health court?” and “What makes food security programs important?”. Having a virtual format this year will allow coverage of sites that are both in and out of the downtown core, featuring sites that are more hidden in the city. We will get to take a look at the important work that goes on inside them and learn more about the unique services they offer.

On June 5th, Fred’s (Virtual) Walk participants will be invited onto the virtual walk live steam. They will join their hosts on a 1 ½ hour digital journey of Fred Victor’s sites, breaking things up with Fred Victor fun facts and interactive activities. You will hear from Fred Victor staff all across the city who are keeping the city’s most vulnerable populations safe.

So why join Fred’s (Virtual) Walk this year?

Fred Victor’s aim of ending homelessness and poverty in Toronto is now more important than ever. Our goal is to connect individuals to mental health and healthcare services, find appropriate housing for individuals and families with diverse needs, meet food access needs, and so much more. But during a global pandemic, we can see individuals and groups are being left on the sidelines and need our support.

Through Fred’s (Virtual) Walk, you will raise funds to ensure these services can stay open and support those most marginalized during this crisis and beyond. On the virtual walk, you will see how the funds you raise positively impact Fred Victor’s programs and services. Join us today!
