October is Month to Give!

HOTHOUSE and Fred Victor launched the Month to Give – a one-month partnership where customers of the HOTHOUSE can add $4, $6, or $8 to their bills to buy a meal for someone who needs it.

To kick off the October 2019 Month to Give we hosted a soup lunch right on the HOTHOUSE patio.

For a small donation, passersby in the St. Lawrence Market were treated to delicious soup served by special guests: Canadian comedy legends Colin Mochrie and Deb McGrath!

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Fred Victor on this fundraising and awareness campaign. As a community restaurant, Fred Victor is our neighbour and provides services for many in need in our neighbourhood. Our family of employees want to make a difference and we think we can help Fred Victor mobilize our community of guests to get involved,” said HOTHOUSE owner, John Watts.

We had over 75 visitors stop by, enjoy some soup, and learn a bit more about the issues affecting the homeless community in the city of Toronto.

There are over 9200 people who are homeless in Toronto on any given night – a number that has practically doubled in the last few years. It is clear that the city is in the midst of a crisis. The continued strain on the shelter system, the growing list of households on the affordable housing waitlist, and the increase in opioid deaths across the city are some of the difficult realities that Fred Victor is addressing through their programs and services.

We are so grateful to have partners like the HOTHOUSE who are helping to put an end to homelessness.

You can stop by the HOTHOUSE at 35 Church street anytime during the month of October to make your donation and help us continue to create positive change in the lives of homeless and low-income people living across Toronto.
