Women's Services

Making a Difference for Women.
During the past few years, a growing number of women have turned to Fred Victor Centre for shelter and support; women living in poverty, or who are homeless and living on the streets of Toronto. Fred Victor Centre is committed to providing women a safe and welcoming environment through a number of programs and facilities.

FRED VICTOR CENTRE WOMEN'S HOSTEL

The Women's Hostel is a safe accessible shelter for women, who are homeless, socially isolated, and who have difficulty maintaining housing elsewhere. The women who require emergency shelter may have been recently evicted, victims of domestic violence, have mental health or substance use issues, unemployed, new immigrants/refugees, or be sex trade workers. Additionally, this hostel serves transsexual women and men.

Hostel Staff work with the women in a flexible and respectful manner, using a harm reduction approach. They work to ensure that the women's basic needs are met. Hostel staff also work with the women through informal counselling and case management to help the women identify and meet their individual needs, link them with appropriate support services, and help them access safe, affordable housing to end their cycle of homelessness.

HOSTEL REDIRECT PROGRAM

This program is designed to assist women to leave the hostel system by acquiring affordable housing. This program focuses on women who are new to the hostel system. A full-time housing worker is available on-site at the Women's Hostel.

WOMEN'S DAY PROGRAM

Fred Victor Centre's Women's Day Program works in partnership with other community agencies in the Adelaide Resource Centre for Women to provide a continuum of services for women who are homeless, low-income, and socially isolated. The Day program is a safe and welcoming place for women to begin to meet their emotional and practical needs. The Day program provides services that address poverty and homelessness, social isolation, substance use and mental health issues. By creating opportunities for choice, women are empowered to improve the quality of their lives.
