Fred Victor is fortunate to have some friends who are good corporate citizens. Here is a round-up of fall volunteer activities initiated by companies that want to connect... and care. Thank you!
The HOME DEPOT CANADA FOUNDATION
Women’s Day Program Manager, Michelle Taylor (middle), was on a mission. Each year, hundreds of women come into the Day Program wearing and carrying wet or soiled clothing. The Program has always been able to offer laundry facilities. However, for several months, it had been clear that the washer and dryer were beyond repair and needed replacing. We reached out and before anyone could quickly say “Clean and Dry” five times, the HOME DEPOT CANADA FOUNDATION had come forward with a $1,500 gift card. Yeah HOME DEPOT! Thank you! Here’s Michelle at a HOME DEPOT store in early November picking out the wonderful new apartment-size washer and dryer.
STATE STREET GLOBAL OUTREACH
An international investment company, STATE STREET, is one of Fred Victor’s downtown neighbours. For more than five years, a team of volunteer State Streeters has shopped, prepared, served and cleaned up a special turkey dinner at Thanksgiving or Christmas for the 44 women at our Women’s Hostel nearby their office. Here’s the State Street team with Dorothy, the Women’s Hostel cook, this past Thanksgiving. Thank you State Street! You add so much spirit to your turkey dinners!!
CARILLION is a leading, UK-based construction and facilities management company. A team of their employees made a connection with Fred Victor and asked if there was a volunteer project they could take on. So, fittingly, they set up shop as a painting team and transformed a dingy, basement office and activity room into a cheerful, welcoming spot. Amazing what paint and goodwill can do!! Here they are with their rollers and the happy green and yellow paint. We look forward to an ongoing connection with you. Thank you again!!
HUNTER ELECTRIC AND ROBERTSON ELECTRIC WHOLESALE
Here’s how word travels and great things get done. Carillion (noted above) originally made an in-kind donation to our Women’s Hostel. Fred Victor Fundraising connected with them to say thank you. Carillion wanted to get more involved so they sent over a painting team to transform the office and activity room in the Supports to Daily Living program. Carillion saw that light fixtures needed updating. They put a call out to their suppliers. Joe D’alessandro from Hunter Electric answered the call, and they in turn reached out to Rick Campbell at Robertson Electric Wholesale. Robertson donated wonderful, bright, long-life LED light fixtures and Hunter sent crew (Paul and Paul) over to install on December 10th. Job DONE! What a huge improvement to that space. Fred Victor housing worker Aisha Tambo was the point person through it all. A whopping big thank you to Hunter Electric and Robertson Electric Wholesale. The holidays and new year will be bright because of you!
RBC WEALTH MANAGEMENT
Two volunteer teams from RBC washed their hands and suited up in whites and prepared feasts for Fred Victor community at Friends Restaurant. There was a November “blahs”- busting meal for about 200 Fred Victor community members on November 20th and a festive meal on December 18th. RBC added a good dollop of dollars to the mix, too, a $5,000 cheque — financial support for more meals for our community in the future! So, thoughtful, so respectful, so much fun for everyone. Thank you RBC. You took the time to listen and learn about us that day, too. So very much appreciated!
HOUSE OF COOL INC.
House of Cool, a pre-production studio for animation movies, gave six volunteers to our Open House Drop-in this morning to deliver a kind donation of winter clothing and boots and to help with some Open House jobs. The learned about the Drop-in and the work done there and on Giving Tuesday (December 2nd) made good on the day’s name! Thank you Cool House. What a warm and cool bunch you are!!
