The Shoebox Project for Shelters is a non-profit initiative that asks individuals and organizations to fill a shoebox with little luxuries during holidays and throughout the year so that they can be delivered to women living in shelters and affordable housing.
This past Christmas and holiday season Fred Victor received shoeboxes from a number of generous donors including Dundee Realty (below) and Christine Elliott (above).
Tanya de Silva is a teaching assistant in Toronto and she was inspired to get involved in the Shoebox Project. She came to Fred Victor Women’s Day Program in December 2013 to deliver her gifts of special toiletries and little gifts beautifully wrapped in shoe boxes. On the right, a happy recipient opens her gift.
Tanya says, “We all start somewhere and I guess I felt I could have easily been in this situation. My dad always told me to be of use in this world and give back to others. It was the perfect time. I have been overwhelmed by the kindness of everyone associated with the Shoebox initiative and residents of Fred Victor are in loving hands.”
