Women's Bakery graduate Shankeree Krishnamoorthy with University of Toronto social work student who assisted the Bakery this past term, Charlotte Bondy.

The air in the room was full of warmth as palpable as the scent of fresh-baked bread.  Ten women had completed their six-month training in baking and customer service and were about to be feted.

Mandy Ridley, the stellar program co-ordinator commended the graduates, “I’m really proud of you all.”  Sue Fleming, a member of the Bakery Advisory Board and Professor at George Brown College’s Chef School said: “You are a group of women who just needed a chance to shine.  You’re all diamonds, you just needed a little polish.”

Women who had experienced significant barriers to employment in the past are now hired full-time in bakeries, are enrolled in further education or are working as volunteers to gain more experience.
