Simone Janeau (on the right) has been stably housed in her apartment at 319 Dundas Street, affordable housing owned by the All Saints Church Homes for Tomorrow Society, for several years. She is one of the 14 women Aisha Tambo (left), the on-site Fred Victor housing support worker, provides day- to-day support for. She, like the other women under Aisha’s wing, lives with complex physical and mental health challenges.
Registered Nurse Erika Coleman (middle) provides nursing care to women in the Dundas-Sherbourne neighbourhood who are not mobile or who have difficulty keeping appointments. Aisha’s knowledge of her tenants means she is able to identify priority care for Erika and thus prevent health concerns from escalating and becoming crises. Making nursing care accessible in this way keeps people out of hospital emergency departments.
Over the past year, Erika has provided anti-psychotic injections, monitored blood pressure, given insulin shots and been the trusted, comforting nurse at the door. She has made a minimum of 125 visits to the women for whom Aisha provides supports to daily living.
