Make Housing Happen

Fred Victor has always been interested in taking the lead.  It’s in our character as an organization.

So, in early 2007, when a committee of Fairlawn Avenue United Church suggested funding a housing office that would support innovation and collaboration among housing providers, Fred Victor leapt at the opportunity.

Through the past year, Fred Victor researched harm reduction housing models - that’s housing for people with mental health issues that include addictions.

Once the research was complete, key findings were published and a presentation was made to the people who got the ball rolling, the Fairlawn Avenue United Church. Here’s the link to the published study.

Since then “Make Housing Happen” has transformed into a committee of the Fred Victor Board of Directors. The committee’s mandate is to:

  • provide advice, leadership and research
  • develop resources and expertise, and finally,
  • to develop new housing
