Q: Are Green buildings, better buildings?

When it comes to energy efficiency and clean, temperate air to breathe, green building innovations are not only healthier, they’re a great investment. 

Fred Victor’s Housing and Community Centre at Queen and Jarvis Streets has been improved and renovated over the years. However, similar to many older buildings, it was an energy guzzler!

But that has changed. The 145 Queen Street East site was retrofited with some green technology solutions.  We're working to perfect the new systems but staff, tenants and clients indoors:

• breathe cleaner air at moderate temperatures thanks to a new HVAC system
• are protected from severe weather thanks to properly fitted windows
• are reducing their energy consumption thanks to better insulation and the installation of energy efficient mechanicals and appliances

Additional green projects, such as a green roof, solar collectors and improved rain water management are being researched.
