Concurrent Disorder Support Services

Here’s how Fred Victor treats the “ill-effects” of poverty and homelessness.

For years, people with both mental illness and addiction problems found themselves wandering the health and social services landscape in Toronto.  It was hard to find a psychiatrist or addiction councillor who would address both your mental illness and your substance use. 

So Fred Victor, with other health-related organizations, set up a referral network called Concurrent Disorders Support Services.  The network co-ordinates services so there can be an immediate response to people with urgent mental health and addiction conditions.  These services include: withdrawal management and treatment, safe beds, primary care, clinical counseling, psychiatric care and  housing assistance.
